I direct the Asian Studies Center at Michigan State University and am Interim Treasurer of the Association for Asian Studies and the American Institute for Indonesian Studies. In the past I have served as president of the American Institute for Indonesian Studies, the Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs, and the Mid-Atlantic Region Association for Asian Studies and as Treasurer of the American Institute of Indian Studies, and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.
