I direct the Asian Studies Center at Michigan State University. I am also Treasurer of the Association for Asian Studies, American Institute of Indian Studies, and Council of American Overseas Research Centers, and a past president of the American Institute for Indonesian Studies, the Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs, and the Mid-Atlantic Region Association for Asian Studies.
